Gustavo Petro, former rebel warrior, elected president of Colombia:

  • Colombia’s presidency has been won by Gustavo Petro, a former rebel warrior who has pledged significant social and economic transformation.
  • He received 50.4 percent of the vote, while his opponent, construction magnate Rodolfo Hernandez, received 47.3 percent.
  • Petro ran for president for the third time, and his triumph adds the Andean nation to a growing list of Latin American countries that have elected progressives in recent years.

Mongolia’s Khuvsgul lake added to UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves:

  • Khuvsul Lake National Park of Mangolia has been added to the World Network of Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO.
  • The decision was made during the 34th session of the International Co-ordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Programme taking place in Paris, France.
  • Khuvsgul Lake is located in the northern Mongolian province of Khuvsgul near the Russian border, holding nearly 70 per cent of Mongolia’s fresh water, or 0.4 per cent of the world’s total.

‘Single-Use Plastic’ use to banned by Union Govt. from 1st July, 2022:

  • From July 1st, 2022, the Union government will outlaw single-use plastic. Single-use plastics, particularly those made of polystyrene and expanded polystyrene.

India’s first ‘Balika Panchayat’ constituted in five villages of Gujarat:

  • The country’s first-ever, ‘Balika Panchayat’, has started in five villages of Gujarat’s Kutch district.
  • This initiative has been taken by the Women and Child Development Welfare Department of the Gujarat Government under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign.
  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development is also planning to begin the girl panchayat across the country.
  • “Balika Panchayat” is managed by people in the 11-21 age group and its main objective is to promote the social and political development of the girl child and to remove the evil practices from the society such as child marriage, and the dowry system.

‘Shabash Mithu’: A biopic on former Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj:

  • Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji has dropped the trailer of “Shabaash Mithu”, a Taapsee Pannu-starrer biopic on former India women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj.
  • Amit Trivedi has provided music for the film with lyrics by Swanand Kirkire, Kausar Munir and Raghav M. Kumar, and sound designed by Academy Award winner Rasool Pookutty.

Shanan Dhaka secured 1st rank to the First Women’s NDA Batch:

  • Shanan Dhaka, daughter of Sundana village of Rohtak, has secured the first rank in the examination for admission to the country’s first women’s NDA batch.
  • Shanan has secured 10th position in Boys’ examination and first position in Girls’ examination across the country.
  • Selected for lieutenant, Shanan Dhaka, inspired by grandfather Subedar Chandrabhan Dhaka and father Nayak Subedar Vijay Kumar Dhaka, joined the army and chose to serve the country.

Mukhyamantri Matrushakti Yojana Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi Participated in Gujarat Gaurav Abhiyan at Vadodara where he inaugurated and laid the foundation of Mukhyamantri Matrushakti Yojana and several projects.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “Rapid development of women, their empowerment is equally important for the rapid development of 21st century India. Today India is making plans and taking decisions keeping in mind the needs and aspirations of women”

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launches NIPUN for Promoting Upskilling of Nirman workers:

  • Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri has launched an innovative project National Initiative for Promoting Upskilling of Nirman workers (NIPUN) in New Delhi.

Bengaluru: PM inaugurates the B R Ambedkar School of Economics:

  • PM Modi presented a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar, the author of the Indian Constitution, at the inauguration of new campus of Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE) University.
  • He also showcased 150 ‘Technology Hubs’ at the ceremony, which were created by revamping Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) around Karnataka. The Technology Hubs initiative, which has a budget of over Rs 4,700 crore and is backed by several industry partners, intends to develop a trained workforce to meet Industry 4.0 personnel requirements.

  • The biography of billionaire industrialist, Gautam Adani, titled “Gautam Adani: The Man Who Changed India” will hit the stands in October, announced Penguin Random House (PRHI).

Ruchira Kamboj named as next Permanent Representative of India to the UN:

  • Senior Diplomat Ruchira Kamboj, currently Indian ambassador to Bhutan, has been appointed as the next Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations at New York.
