Bangladesh Floats Currency for the First Time to Access IMF Funds
- In a historic move, Bangladesh’scentral bank has decided to allow its currency, the taka, to float freely for the first time.
- The decision comes in response to demands from theInternational Monetary Fund (IMF)and aims to unlock additional funds from a $4.7 billion loan program.
- While Bangladesh is not heavily indebted, the country joins a growing list of nations, including Pakistan, Egypt, and Lebanon, that have opted to loosen control over their local currencies to secure financing from the Washington-based lender
IREDA at Intersolar Europe 2023 in Munich
- IREDA,a Mini Ratna (Category – I) enterprise under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy,participated in the prestigious three-day “Intersolar Europe 2023” exhibition held in Munich, Germany.
- The inauguration of the pavilion was carried out by CMD, IREDA, Pradip Kumar Das, who expressed the firm’s dedication towards a greener future.
- During the exhibition, IREDA officials attended meetings with KfW Development Bank and Commerz Bank to review current progress and explore partnership opportunities.
- IREDA officials also visited RCT GMbH to discuss the technology, milestones, and costs related to the Indosol Solar Manufacturing project

- The 146th Rath Yatraof Lord Jagannathcommenced in the city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with tight security measures in place.

Centre Discontinues Sale of Rice and Wheat Under OMSS to State Govts to Check Price Rise
- The Indian government has decided to discontinue the sale of rice and wheat from the central pool under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS)to state governments.
- This move, aimed at curbing rising prices, will impact certain states, including Karnataka, that provide free grains to the poor.
- However, rice sales under the OMSS will continue for northeastern states, hilly regions, and states facing law and order issues or natural calamities

- The decision to confer the award on Gita Press was taken by a jury headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
